"Bold As Love"

What John has to say about it:

"When I listen to Axis: Bold as Love, the colour of that record to me is orange," he says, referring to a 1968 Jimi Hendrix album whose cover featured orange and pink rays emanating from an orange sun. "That's the power of suggestion that artists have — that's all we have — because we don't put records out with a syllabus or with a mission statement."

"I felt confidant enough as a writer and kind of as a guitar player at least to not devastate the honor of Jimi Hendrix, and I approached this more as a writer then a guitar player. It's a beautiful tune, Hendrix you know has the rap of being the guitar smashing, LSD head band wearer, which is really untrue, and this is my defense of James Marshal Hendrix in one of the most beautiful song ever written and I certainly hope I do it some justice, if not complete justice"

"That was actually recorded live, it was recorded the night of, having played that on the NBC Tsunami benefit, which is certainly not something we wanted to have to do, but I at least have a nice memory surrounding a very strange couple of weeks. That song sounds the way it sounds because we kinda took that feeling from having played that benifit. Got into a van went off into the studio where all our stuff was waiting and went and hit that song, and its really almost more for the fans who want me to play more guitar on my record."
