Although I am 100% a dedicated fan of John's, my love for his music was no instant, in fact at first contact it was a complete confliction with my previous taste in music (mainly hip hop/ rock). It took me several years since the release of Room For Squares to warm up to john's poppy style. John's music has slowly restored my faith in pop and the future of quality music for our generation.

The fact he was able to take a 17 year old kid and reverse a lifetime of musical conditioning in a world where anything void of a turntable or maxed out reverb was automatically dismissed, makes his works all the more impressive to me. My favorites by John are actually he's live extended solo inclusive versions of Covered in rain and gravity. I have always soulfully listened to John's honest and more mainstream tunes, but It's his potential that's always intrigued me as a fellow fan of blues and rock history. We have john’s number, but he always knew the score right?

Another reason I have remained to loyal to John, is his attitude towards life; John IS my role model regardless of fame. His witty sense of humor and articulate, thoughtful and sometimes straight up style of presenting himself is something that really appeals to me. When he play’s, there’s no letting up, this man constantly amazes me with his refreshing style of guitar playing with a special timelessness to his music. It’s music for the soul, and not for the masses.

Continuum is going to turn a lot of heads in the music industry, and even more for those who are lucky enough to witness his history-in-motion tour. This will be John’s first album and I just can’t wait to be blown away.

I played guitar for about 3 years before I heard about JM. I first heard about him on the radio with his hits such as No such thing, and Your body is a wonderland. I never really took a real interest but i remember apreciating the music as music. They say people who say that they are into ''all music'' just haven't found what is really there music.

Well last year bout August I managed to pick up Any given Thursday for $10 at the local store. I originally picked it up because my brother had said it had a killer version of message ina bottle. He was not lying. I watched the entire concert twice when i first bought it then with the commentary all in the space of a day. I had fell in love. I was just so drawn to the way he played and sang, and just how he talked and his thoughts about his music. It like all related to me in a way which i had never experienced before. I now am almost border line obssesed but not in a bad way.

My guitar has now become my passion and being an observationlist and songwriting have become my drive. My drive for that one feeling of when your on stage with you guitar, and anything can happen, any song, any note, any voice. Thats what I now live for. Thank You John Mayer

The first time I'd heard John Mayer, a friend of mine told me to turn on the radio to 94.1 (las vegas) and listen to this song. The first thing i said to her was "Oh cmon, its so POPPY! I hate it!"...but i couldnt get it out of my head...

I proceeded to (with the inability to get this POP out of my HEAD!) download the song from KaZaA, the leading FileShare at the time. I accidently ended up with an Acoustic version, and LOVED IT! Right then (to imress the girl), i picked up my dads acoustic (i did not play that much, but i knew my dad could, so why couldnt i?) and started to learn it. It took me three weeks to get it down to be good sounding (while singing), and I learned it! I played it for my dad and he looked at me cross-eyed as in "how the hell did this 16-yr old kid learn that song so fast w/o even playing guitar?" Because i loved the music! I tell myself i learned it to impress girls, but thats just an excuse so i dont seem like i like John more than his music...

Since then i anticipated the release of Heavier Things, bought it the morning it released at a Circuit City, listened to it in my dads minivan on the way home, and was blown away by the horns from "Clarity." It was different, but good. Very good.

I love john's music; i learned john's music, now i write my own with his and Jason Mraz's almost exclusive influence...I love johns voice and lyrics, but i like the way Jason rhythmically uses the words...I love the detail added to the music by johns Fender Strat, and how he uses (in the Trio at least) several amps to achieve that special tone his mind craves for. I hope to be obsessed with electric guitar like he is someday, to yearn to come home and place the amp on a table and sit on the back of a chair and just play for hours and hours...so far i can only do that on an acoustic.

John inspired me to actually try to be a famous musician...we'll see how that works out =P

On a hot June night of 2003 I was sitting on my computer doing Biology homework (I was failing at the time). I was talking to this girl on msn I had a crush on and she sent me this song, I later found out it was "Your body is a wonderland.” It was named something else though; it was a live version the one where he talks about marshmallow to oat ratios (classic). I was instantly hooked and it became mine and this girls "song" when we started dating. Needless to say I bought all his CD's hence forth. On Valentines Day 2004 I took my girlfriend to see John Mayer live when he was touring for his Heavier Things CD, it was the best concert I have ever been to. Anyways years had passed and there have been new girls, although "Your body is a wonderland" is synonymous with this girlfriend I still love the song... maybe that's why.

I have been soooo addicted to John for the past three years now.. it all started on August 16, 2002 - YES, I REMEMBER THE EXACT DATE - I was browsing in the cd section at my local Wal-Mart, and I came across John's Room for Squares album. I had heard he was really good, and so I listened to clips of a few songs on a cd sampler type thing they had there... it sounded good so I bought it. I listened to the entire thing when I got home, and I was just blown away. I could NOT stop listening to this cd. It's one of those cds where every song is just so amazing..... I have been a dedicated fan ever since. I love him cause he just has this unbelievable talent... he has the most beautiful voice I've ever heard, writes awesome music and can really play that guitar!!!!!

I just love how he gets into his music; the way he bops his head, makes all these funny faces without even meaning to, and just absolutely cannot stand still on stage. He is a really down-to-earth person too... he always has something funny/witty/clever to say, and he does lots and lots of charity work, and you never really hear him talk about it so you can tell that he really does care a lot. I swear the guy's got a smart brain in that giant head - he keeps his family out of the public eye, doesn't break any laws, and doesn't smoke, drink alcohol or do drugs. I must add that he's hot. LOL. So John, don't ever change, I along with your other fans love you just the way you are. Keep up the good work!!!!!

going to a john mayer concert is like going to stand-up comedy with a bunch of acousitic guitars. i always enjoy going to his performances and laughing at the things we think about but he dares to say. and also, going to his concerts to see those pouty lips on a big screen doesn't hurt either.

Shawn says...

The song that hooked me was no such thing....I just couldn't get it outta my head....and I was into to punk at the time so I was just kinda like "what the!..? then I saw the video for no such thing and I was like yes, I love this song...and he was a spitting image of myself, I swear..the looks the hair it was me....so I bought the cd and it hasn't left my cd player since...seriously, it is in the player right now..I haven't had to buy any cd's since room for squares...except for hendrix, the police, srv, and all the other artist he opened my up to.

-did i mention he's sexy?

yeah, i didn't jump on the JMayer bandwagon until this year when i saw the pilot for "John Mayer Has a TV Show"...i fell in love haha...so, even tho the show didnt catch on, he scored at least one fan!

Emily says...

I am in love with John Mayer. He was something totally special to me even when I first heard him. I can even remember watching VH1 and the "No Such Thing" video playing as an "up and coming artist". I demanded "Room for Squares" for my birthday and I spent a full day listening to it. Ever since, I have been completely in love with John and his music...and that was 3 years ago. I love his lyrics, his voice, and his mad guitar skills. Seeing him live is completely amazing and I am dying to see him live for my 4th time. It's almost pathetic how much I am in love with him, but I think there are much worse things to be obsessed with. :)

No Name says...

He's an amazing guitarist.I first heard him 2 years ago, when i was 14. He was friggin awesome. So I started learning to play his songs. And I'm still learning them. So He's been a major inspiration to me. He's a very creative writer musically and lyrically. He know's music, which is a sigh of relief to the industry im sure. Well to the listeners thats for sure. Girls dig him, which is obvious just by this forum. Basically. He's Cool.

Kaitlin says...

John Mayer is awesome. I'm a big fan. He's really funny at his concerts, too. Some of the stuff he says is a little... on the line.. of.. well nevermind, he can say whatever the hell he wants. He went to my H.S., FHS, representin' ffld, CT! I saw him at the movies last weekend. i didnt talk to him though cause i didnt want to interrupt.. he was going into batman w/ a friend (yes, a guy, thank goodness lol)

Anita says...

I love listening to John while I'm driving in my car or chilling in my room, especially when it's raining. He sings to my soul and whenever I hear one of his songs in places like a shopping centre or at the office, everything stressful melts away. He makes me feel like everyday is a sleepy Sunday morning. I think he has great talent beyond his years. Im a journalist in Sydney Australia and I can't wait till he comes out again so I can interview him! Only in my dreams!

Chelsea Szegidewicz (URL) says...

The reason to be a John Mayer fan is...

He writes amazing lyrics!
He's awesome at guitar!
He's freakin' hilarious!
He makes fun of himself!
He's a great, nice, and fun, and all of the great stuff in the world!
He is...just...AwEsOmE!
And He has a sexy voice(lol)

The first time I listened to John Mayer was, in 2003...My sister and I were visiting my mother in Georgia, because I lived in Montreal,Canada at the time(we just moved there, and my mom was getting ready to move up...) My mom's like"You'll love this guy, his name is John Mayer." And I started listening to his music, and I fell in love with it... the music inspired me. But I did listen to No such thing in canada...i loved it...i had no idea who it was though...So after visiting my mom, I deffinitly bought the cd! Everytime I listened to it, it always reminded me of the time i visited Georgia, and 'Why Georgia' always... I don't know...got to me...in a good way...his music made me happy, by thinking I was with my mom driving down 85...It comforted me while I was down...because the stupid french language got to me...IN A BAD WAY!...lol...And...I thank John Mayer for his music...he inspired me to start guitar... and I am Awesome at guitar now...without him, I wouldn't be where I am today...:-)...I wouldn't know what I want to do for my career without him...and I'm only 13 years old...thanks John...:-)...And whenever someone says John Mayer's music sucks...and want to punch them in the freakin' face...because...ERR...lol..!

Meredith says...

I have loved John for awhile now. His music is amazing and I am just CRAZY about him. His music is so meaningful, and did I mention his looks? WOW. I have gotten most of my friends hooked on him, and they used to laugh at me for my room. My room is covered with Mayer-related stuff. I don't think I have gone a day without thinking of him. What can I say? I AM OBSESSED. Dela is awesome too, I can't imagine John without him. He's himself, and we can never predict what he will do next. A collaboration with Kanye and Common? Didn't see that one coming, but they turned out great. JOHN IS MY GUITAR HERO! And his quotes just crack me up. Everytime I see him live I go crazy. He is g-o-r-g-e-o-u-s.

Davra says...

Every once in awhile you fall in love with the music of the one musician that you use to switch the video station from. This is exactly what happened to me with John Mayer. I was actually turned on to Mayer by another musician that I am still a fan of, Craig David. While visiting his site there was a video link of an interview with Craig. I will never forget one thing about that interview and that was that Craig spoke so highly of this man called John Mayer (at this time he was known as the YBIAW guy to me I hadn't heard any of his other stuff) right after I got off of his site I went to Amazon to listen to clips of John's album, I didn't fall in love with it right away. I didn't listen to the ones that are my favorite songs now, but one day I decided to give it another try and I randomly went to Why Georgia and St Patrick’s Day and BAMM! I thought so this is what all the hype is about. I went out and got his second CD first and I loved it! I then went crazy and brought the first CD as well as the DVD, Any Given Thursday! I've been a huge fan ever since! Why... Well the answer to that is a given he's an Incredible singer, writer, and guitar player. His voice is so good, unique, smooth, and breathy like a whisper, his lyric's are as beautiful, yet releatable, and his guitar playing is a mixture of every one of his great influences SRV, Hendrix. I have also recently found that John is just as adaptable as a chameleon (With his blues shows, I don't need no doctor etc, etc), yet he doesn't compromise his own style. I think you could place him in any genre of music and he'd find his niche, lastly we cannot forget he has such a big, pleasant, and humorous personality all this just adds to the reason why we're all a fan of John.

Sydney says...

I was maybe 11 when my dad first got me into John Mayer driving to his house one day. He was like "Syd, you'll love this guy." Boy was he right. There is just something about him. The combination of an AWSOME guitarist and a great lyrical writter just made me love him. All his songs are honest and truthful...and kinda give a whole new spin on life. You kinda gain this instict of like...how John Mayer would see this. He personafies everything. I just fell in love wiht him. I understood what he was talking about. I kinda learned how to think of things a little more abstractly.

And at the time..no one really knew who he was. None of my friends liked him so I was kinda alone in my love for John. I started downloading songs and pictures. Reading up on him. I watched him win the Grammy for 'You're Body is a Wonderland' and I was like YES!!!! THAT"S MY GUY RIGHT THERE!!! His fame started to grow. I live in Atlanta so I feel in love with Why Georgia. I sang it everyday. I just couldn't get enough of it.

And then I learned that he used to play right downtown at Eddie's Attic. I flipped! I was like DUDE MY GUY LIVED HERE!! My dad was the only other fan I knew at the time and he said yes. Then I got a newletter saying he was coming out with a new Album. I about peed in my pants the day I came home from school and my dad had the CD sitting on the desk. I wore that cd out. I listened to it over and over and learned every song by heart. Just like Room For Sqaures. It was so awsome. I just loved every song. I couldn't choose one to love more than another.

Then I found out John was coming in concert, touring for his new cd. On Thanksgiving Day...my aunt..who had become a HUGE fan of John took me into the dining room and at my seat was a little box. I couldn't see or think straight, nor could I stop smiling. I opened the box. Two tickets to see John at Philips Arena in two weeks. I screamed so loud my brother started crying. I"VE GOT TICKETS TO JOHN MAYER!!!!!

I just about cried when he came out on stage..opening with Why Georgia. During that song is when I decided I wanted to play guitar. I wanted to learn how to play and perform like that for thousands of people everyday. I wanted to be able to streach my heart out over song lyrics like that. I just fell in love all over again. That Christmas I got the Any Given Thursday cd...and ran that over and over too. This past Christmas..over a year and a half later, I got my first acustic guitar and am currently learning to play Why Georgia.

I am now 14 years old and have been a devoted John Mayer fan for nearly four years. I've met some friends who like John too and I proudly wear my concert T-shirt all the time. Whenever life isn't going my way I just turn on one of my fave John Mayer songs..and if I'm at school...i'll write the lyrics down in a journal or hum it to myslef.

There's something about his voice and his music and his lyrics that is almost soothing. You can tell he loves what he does and that he plans to do if for a long time. He's so low key and has such insiteful outlooks on life and love and music and relationships. It's so nice to be a John Mayer fan, and it's just as nice to know that there are so many that feel the same!

Thank you for allowing me to journey with you on your trip...lets keep it going, im in the mood for some more travel!

Liz says...

I don't know exactly when I began listening to John Mayer's music, but I knew immediately it was something I could sing along to. I love his sound.

It's one of those things you can't explain correctly. People ask me why I love his music so much, and I tell them he is awesome on guitar and fun to listen to. The only way I can explain the power of his music is this... it is kind of like you are at your school's pep rally, the football team's on a roll, and the stomping music comes on and you see the dance team doin' their thing and you are like, "Yeah! This is so much fun! There is nowhere else I want to me in this exact moment."

I get that way around my Room For Squares album. I want to sing along, smile, and generally just be in this happy place.

My favorite memory is at my first John Mayer concert. I was the only one in my group, consisting of my husband and my sister, to want to get closer to the stage. I didn't care that they were so far away. I just wanted to be part of the crowd. It was one of those general seating concerts where you arrive first, you will get an awesome spot. I was close to the stage, singing along with those around me, and I remember just looking at this amazingly talented person and just smiling like crazy because I was sharing an evening with a crowd with such energy. His stage presence was so cool and confident. And I KNEW I would never get this close again because this man is going to take off and play at such huge venues I could never afford to be in the front row.

I have never, never felt this way about someone's music before. John is going to do even more amazing things in his life and and I am so excited to just be one of his fans. :)

Ashlee says...

I absolutely love the way John Mayer sings and plays guitar...He's the perfect blend of air and light with a hint of breeze. "Man on the Side" is intensely attention-grabbing. He has something for everyone on all of his albums. If you're in a mood where you're looking for love, you listen to "Love Song for No One." If you have love, you listen to "City Love." If you just need to feel something to make you realize what you have, you listen to "Man on the Side." He has an extraordinary talent, and I hope he returns to touring soon! I saw him at Jingle Ball 2004, and was in absolute awe, not only is he amazing, but he's also hilarious!!!! I'm a HUGE fan!

John Mayer takes my breath away when i listen to his music. His lyrics are so magical and solid, that they are so easy to relate to. I can always imagine john mayer writing the songs with his guitars, when i listen to each song. I can take his music and feel relaxed anywhere. There is a certain feeling his songs bring to the atmosphere.I love all of his acoustic and live music, im not really into his popish-record-fixing-songs, my fav album is the Any Given Thursday Album Live, because it shows how comfortable and connecting he is with his audience on stage. I love the way he performs and presents himself, hes so casual. His guitar playing is what blows me away, because he is so talented. People make fun of him for the way he performs, but i think that it shows deep passion and content through song. Yeah the reason why i dont like his popish record label fixing songs, are because theres like beats in the background and background singers, i just like the plain acoustic guitar songs, with just his vocals. His songs are casual conversation and thats what i love about them.

Hes been my favourite artists since forever. I have no doubt that it will ever change

Cassondra says...

I was a bit late jumping onto the JM bandwagon. I've always been a music lover (of all types), but I admit that I normally stick to greatest hit and compilation CD's from "older" artists. Someone gave me the "Room for Squares" CD as a gift and I after listening, I began recommending John's music to friends. I was experiencing a tough time and the combination of John's guitar playing and his lyrics really struck me. Soon after that, "Heavier Things" was released and I was equally as impressed, but perhaps at a different level. I learned bits and pieces about John and his history and his influences through the media...liked the idea that he had such a history in Atlanta (the city that I had just moved to)...and loved the fact that we had so many musical interests/influences in common.

Most of my favorite songs by John never became singles and I kinda' appreciate that. 3X5, Back to You, Clarity, and Only Heart are among my favorite releases...but City Love and Comfortable are close contenders (I think being in love in the city must be exhilarating...still looking forward to it!). Don't hate me, fellow followers, but hated that "Daughters" was released as a single. Really liked the song on the album, but releasing it as a single seemed to give into the stereotype of JM being a sensitive, girly songwriter...and probably sends the wrong message about his music to those out there who aren't very familiar with his wide range of musical talent. (Just one opinion...no need for attacks.)

Feel a tiny bit silly...this is first online posting (ever) and here I am writing what feels like a "fan letter"...part of me feeling a bit too old for such a thing (24) but revelling (one or two "l's"?) in it anyway. Also want to "shout out" (for lack of a "cooler" term) to other musicians who I am currently enjoying...but could not possibly post messages for (cannot believe how much time this actually takes...some of you guys should receive major kudos for your dedication...) ...Coldplay, the new U2 (without discrediting the old...because haven't they always been great?!), Paul Simon (LOVE "Negotiations and Love Songs" CD), all 80's compilation discs, Billie Holiday, Miles Davis, Johnny Cash.... Isn't music just the very best??!!

Just in case John ever reads this (which I seriously doubt), thanks for the ride. Look forward to what's in store for the future. (And I agree with the majority of postings that you are just irresistable to look at...very easy on the eyes...hey, I couldn't help myself.)

Lots of love to all you folks--

I first heard his songs on the radio, and liked what he was about. Then I heard Why Georgia and was more interested. But what pulled me in more was that he is from Bridgeport, CT because I am from Danbury! I thought that was so awesome, and decided I loved him. But it wasn't until Heavier Things did I realize how great he is. (Mainly because it was the first album of his I bought). I would put it on repeat in my room while I found myself painting or writing or something equally as creative. I learned the words in that time, mindlessly, and now listen to it more deeply. I hear the metaphors and just smile because its genius. It really is amazing how great he is. I have to listen to the songs over and over because of how good it makes me feel. And to fully understand that this is real, and he is amazing. I truly love him as an artist. And not to mention, he's really very good looking.... those eyes, and that mouth. :)

I first heard John on the radio about 3 years ago when his first single was on the radio : No Such Thing. Everytime i heard the song i would blast it in my brothers car. And then i just wanted to hear more and more of him, which led me to buying his cd. A couple of months pass and i like totally how great this artist is. Then i finally went totally out for John. When i was in 8th grade everyone who knew who i really liked and they would call me a John Mayer fanatic, in a good way. My good friend got me a "Junior Mints" shirt since the abbreveations for John Mayer are JM and so is the abbrevations of Junior Mints so she refers to him as such. The other part of her gift to me was a collage of him in a shaperof a guitar filled with pictures that i gave her to make this beautiful collage. All it needs is john's signature. In 2004 i finally went to his concert nearby my town of Fresno and saw in on Feb. 22, 2004, which was the day i will never forget. He played his heart out on Come Back To Bed, Covered in Rain and even played behind his back. AND played my favorite song "St. Patrick's Day". I love how john makes his guitar hit your heart and not what u should think of him. He is a terrific guitar player of his generation.

There is a spiritual connection when it comes to John Mayer. Every fan who loves John knows what I am talking about. John's music is an inspiration to me and I know to us all as well. I love all of his songs, and to top it of he is so addorable. I love his facial gestures, when he sings and I love how he jokes around when he is on stage. When John came to San Diego for the summer of 04 it was the best time in my whole life. I did'nt have a camera by my side, but the memory lives in my heart and soul 4-ever as long as I live.3x5 reminds me alot of that special day. anyways theres never a day that goes by that I don't think of MR Mayer. There is just something so special about him I don't know what it is, but it's something that stirs my soul, and John knows how to do it. I love you so so so much John! You have touched me through your music and being just the way that you are. I know that you will be around for along time. And to all the fans! all you guys Rock! lol

I first heard about John on mtv back in 2000. He was just a song writer then. HIe lyrics were beautiful, full of deep thoughts and some passion. You could tell that this was what he loved to do. Next thing I knew he had a cd out. I wasn't into his music but his songs were pretty good. Few years later, when Heavier Things came out I saw it in the store I asked my dad if I could get it for christmas, whic was but about 2 weeks away. On Christmas I recieved the cd and listened to it for a few days and mis-placed it somewhere. I felt really awful by doing so.

Lately I 've been so depressed about my future. I really want to be an actress or maybe even a singer. BUt when I tell my family or friends they laugh in my face. I was cleaning under my bed and found John's cd. I asked my dad if I could borrow his car and he said yes. While I was driving I put on Bigger Than My Body and had to stop the car. I've heard thw song on the radio but it spoke to me in the car. 'Someday I 'll Fly. Some Day I'll Soar." It really meant something to me. Someday I would be bigger than my body gave me credit for and everyone else. JOhn 's true from the heart, he really is. He also has his downsides but heck, he's just a normal guy.

John Mayer is abesolutely beautiful, inside and out. Talent oozes from this boy's skin without his intention. He's the kind of artist that probably wouldn't mind if he didn't win a grammy, or never made it mainstream, but he is thankful he did. You realize what kind of a person he is once he picks up his guitar; he has such patientence. He has to figure out what string to play first, or which chord is going to go where, and that shows how perfect he wants it to be, but he still knows it won't be abesolutely perfect. Plus, he's not afraid to step out of his comfort zone and hang with the rappers. He's open to any kind of music and any kind of person. Also, (I don't really like admitting this because it makes me seem obsessive...) he is the reason why I picked up guitar in the first place. I never realized the beautiful sound of the guitar until I heard him play. John, you're my hero.

JOHN MAYER IS WITHOUT A DOUBT THE MOST GIFTED ARTIST OF OUR GENERATION!!!

From the day I discovered John Mayer’s universe; I was hooked. The lyrics of his songs are so inspiring and so meaningful, so fresh. It gets to the heart of me every single time. He just moves me so much. He knows how to put things in perspective. I like that of him. I don't know if he realize how much some people relate to what he writes...

His voice is so special, so deep and sensual. I never get tired of it because he has an amazing sense of melody and still, he finds a way of being original

And what a guitar player!!! He’s just freakin’ talented and he still impresses me after all this time!

I was out of town both times he visited my city (Montreal). There is no words to express my disapointment...At this point, I'm willing to travel anywhere in North America if he doesn't visit Montreal on his next tour. Can't wait for him to go back on tour!! I 'm hooked.

There's something about Johnny!!! ;o)

OK, ready? You're not going to believe it but i hated Your Body is a Wonderland when it first came out. Yes, I really did. It took some time for me to see the light. I guess when i heard No Such Thing I thought, "hey, who is this guy?" not knowing it was the same person who sand YBIAW. Then I heard Bigger Than My Body and that was it. I was hooked (and this was all before I had even seen how easy on the eyes he was). I went to see John at Jones Beach, Long Island and then Webster Hall in the Village for his Blues show with Della and JJ. Both shows were so different but equally good. I have been to so many concerts, seen so many bands but never have I seen an artist put so much passion and genuine feeling into his craft, I just "get" his lyrics. John has a way with words like noone else, it's truly a gift. Thanks, John for sharing your gift with us.
